TOKYO, Japan – Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix Group of companies (Sonnedix Group), has achieved commercial operation of the 26.5MW Sonnedix Tanabu solar photovoltaic plant on January 31st, 2022.

The 8th large scale solar PV project fully managed through the development, financing, and construction phase by Sonnedix Japan for the Sonnedix Group, Sonnedix Tanabu brings the operating capacity of the Sonnedix Group’s Japanese portfolio to 360MWp – with an additional 55MW expected to reach commercial operation during the first half of 2022.

Located in the town of Yamada, Iwate prefecture, the plant is expected to produce 33,000MWh of clean energy during its first full year of operation. This is the equivalent to powering more than 7,500 households, avoiding the emissions of more than 16,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold through an 18-year plus Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

“2022 will see continued expansion of our solar platform in Japan, as we expect to bring two more solar PV plants to operation in the first half of this year, building on our growth in 2021,” said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix. “This is a testament to Sonnedix’s commitment to the Japanese market, as we continue to actively seek opportunities to expand our global footprint and push forward the energy transition.”

Sonnedix Japan, on behalf of the Sonnedix group of companies (the Sonnedix Group), currently manages a total capacity of around 500MW.

Sonnedix Tanabu represents the second EPC collaboration with Juwi Shizen Energy, with the plant powered by 400Wp JA Solar monocrystalline modules and TMEIC 3.2MW inverters. Juwi Shizen Energy Operations will perform operations and maintenance services for the solar plant.
