SANTIAGO, Chile – Sonnedix, the global solar independent power producer (IPP) has completed the acquisition of two solar PV development projects from Distributed Power Partners (DPP) in Chile.

Totalling 18MW, the projects are: Sonnedix Angamos, a 9MW solar PV plant located near Mejillones, in the Antogafasta region, and Sonnedix Quebrada de Talca, a 9MW solar PV plant located close to Valle del Elqui, Coquimbo.

Both projects are in well-advanced stages of development, aiming to issue Notice-To-Proceed (NTP) within the first quarter of 2022, and start construction works by the second quarter. Both projects are applying to Chile’s special regime for distributed generation projects (“PMGD” regime by its Spanish acronym).

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said: “We are continuing to grow our solar PV platform in Chile and are committed to helping the country meet its ambitious renewable power targets. This year, we started operations of Sonnedix Atacama Solar, with 170WM our largest solar plant to date, and the construction of Sonnedix Meseta de los Andes, 160MW. In September, we were awarded 39% of the National and International Public Tender for the Supply of Energy and Electric Power 2021/01, which will allow us to build around 424MW in solar photovoltaic projects, investing approximately USD 300 million in the country.”

Sonnedix currently has a total capacity of over 5GW worldwide, including a development pipeline of more than 2GW. In Chile, the solar IPP has over 234MW in operations and over 1GW under construction or at various stages of development.

On this transaction, Sonnedix was advised by Morales & Besa (legal) and Anabática Renovables (technical). DPP was advised by Carey (legal).
