Horizon Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Sonnedix Group in partnership with Yarotek, achieved commercial operation of a 16MW DC solar power plant located in Salinas, Puerto Rico. Salinas Solar Park is the first renewable energy facility to comply with Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s grid-stabilizing minimum technical requirements for renewables.

“It comes with great satisfaction and a deep sense of commitment to the people of Puerto Rico to place in service the Salinas Solar Park, the first of several solar energy projects in Puerto to be developed and operated jointly by Sonnedix and Yarotek,” stated Maurizio Grassi, Regional Manager Director – Puerto Rico for Sonnedix.

With an investment of over USD $40 million, Salinas Solar Park will produce enough electricity to supply the annual needs of approximately 2,400 average homes in Puerto Rico. It is expected to generate more than 25,000-megawatt-hours of clean electricity per year, offsetting more than 19,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

“The partnership between Sonnedix and Yarotek represents a major ally for Puerto Rico in reaching its goals to increase clean energy production,” said Samy Esayag, CEO of Yarotek.

This first-of-its-kind facility, built by general contractor Belectric, Inc. and local contractors, is composed of 167,392 First Solar thin film modules, 16 Schneider Electric Conext XC 630 inverters, Green Power Technologies BPCS Inverters, and 5.4MW of Saft Lithium Ion batteries. During construction, the project generated over 210 direct jobs, a substantial majority of which were sourced from the Salinas community.
