  • The new authorisation enables Sonnedix to access the end-customer market directly and accelerate value creation across its renewable energy portfolio.
  • This licence marks a milestone in Sonnedix’s vertical integration, adding energy supply to end customers to its generation business and reinforcing its positioning as a Next-Gen IPP.
  • Customers will benefit from integrated energy solutions combining generation, storage, and supply.
  • Spain is the first market to launch Sonnedix’s fully integrated Next-Gen IPP model.

Madrid - Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with more than 12GW of total capacity, today announces it has received official authorisation from the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC) to operate as a fully licensed electricity trading and supply company in Spain. This milestone marks a significant step forward in Sonnedix’s commercial strategy in one of its core markets.

The CNMC authorisation grants Sonnedix full trading and supply rights under Spain’s regulatory framework, enabling the company to operate directly within the electricity market, optimise and commercialise its growing renewable and storage portfolio, and develop competitive, flexible energy solutions tailored to the increasingly sophisticated needs of corporate and industrial customers. The next phase of its commercial strategy will focus on the efficient management of energy through the dispatch of Sonnedix's own generation, enabling greater operational control and further strengthening the company's ability to deliver value across the entire energy chain.

Sonnedix’s Next-Gen IPP places the customer at the centre of everything the company does. It is no longer only about producing renewable energy, but about how that energy is delivered, structured, and transformed into real value, with the flexibility and sophistication demanded by today’s energy markets. With operations in Chile, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom, Sonnedix sees this milestone as a blueprint for deepening its integrated value proposition across all its markets worldwide.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, stated: “Securing this CNMC licence is far more than a regulatory milestone in Spain. It is a defining moment in Sonnedix’s journey as a Next-Gen IPP. For years, we have built one of the most respected renewable energy generation platforms in the world. Now we are taking the next step: becoming a truly integrated energy company that combines generation, storage, and supply to serve customers directly and deliver the flexible, tailored solutions the market demands. Spain is where this new chapter begins, and we intend to bring this integrated model to all of our markets.”

Gregorio Morales, Chief Commercial Officer of Sonnedix, added: “This license is a powerful commercial enabler. It allows us to offer our customers in Spain a truly end-to-end renewable energy proposition, from generation all the way through to supply. We are now in a position to compete in the market on our own terms, structuring innovative solutions that meet the increasingly sophisticated energy procurement needs of corporate and industrial clients. This is a major step forward for the execution of our commercial strategy.”
