  • The transaction comprises six renewable energy projects from the asset managers EOS Investment Management and Capital Dynamics
  • Five out of the six projects already operational, with one (12MW) under construction
  • All plants located in Lazio and benefit from long term PPAs
  • This milestone brings Sonnedix’s capacity in the Italian market to over 1GW

Milan, Italy – Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with 12GW of total capacity, today announced the acquisition of six solar PV plants in Italy, increasing total capacity in the country by 194MW. The acquisition of the Akira portfolio comes at a time of strong momentum for Sonnedix’s Italian operations, bringing the company’s total operational capacity to over 1GW.

The portfolio consists of five operational solar PV plants (182 MW total) and a 12MW project under construction, all in the Lazio region (where Sonnedix operates 91 MW and has 171MW under construction). The acquisitions are supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), providing stable and contracted revenues.

In December 2025, Sonnedix secured contracts totalling over 800MW of solar capacity through Italy’s FER-X auction, its NZIA-aligned scheme, and the Energy Release mechanisms. Recently, Sonnedix started operations at the 14MW Aprilia 2 project in Lazio, showcasing the company’s commitment to strengthening the Italian energy market, while the 32MW Ponte Barca project is expected to reach commercial operations later this month.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, commented:

“Surpassing 1GW in Italy is a significant milestone which further strengthens our leadership in the Italian market. Since our first project here, in 2010, we’ve built a long-term footprint and a consistent record as a key partner in fulfilling Italy’s energy transition. With our extensive expertise in the Italian energy market, and the recent allocation of a further 800MW through competitive auctions and schemes, we are well positioned to deliver Italy’s energy transition through scale and innovation.”

Giuseppe Maronna, Sonnedix’s Head of Growth for Italy, said:

“This milestone is the result of our proactive development strategy in Italy which includes strategic acquisitions, project development, and investments in hybridisation. With momentum underpinned by strong performance in Italy’s recent FER-X and NZIA allocations, we are on track to reach our target of 2GW operational capacity by the end of 2028.”

Italy remains a core market for Sonnedix, where the company continues to expand its footprint through both acquisitions and development, while enhancing its portfolio through investments in hybridisation, including a recently announced co-located BESS project under development in Sicily.
