Isabela, Puerto Rico, December 17, 2015 – Oriana Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Sonnedix Group, in partnership with Yarotek, today announced issuance of Notice to Proceed of a 57.65MW solar plant in Isabela, Puerto Rico, in the northwest of the Island.

Notice to Proceed (NTP) was issued on December 16, 2015 to Athens, Greece based METKA-EGN, who will build, commission and operate the facility. METKA-EGN has a solid track record of building solar plants in Europe and the UK. Once in operation, the Oriana solar power plant will be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean, and will meet the annual electricity needs of more than 12,000 homes.

“We are excited with our investment and the continuous support by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) to add the Oriana solar power plant to our ever-growing fleet of operational plants in Puerto Rico and around the world”, said Pablo Pulido, Director for Sonnedix. “We are confident that this project, in addition with our 15.52 MW Horizon project commissioned this past August, will serve as a strong base for our strategy of developing and building utility-size world-class farms and help meet Puerto Rico’s renewable energy objectives as solar PV becomes a competitive power source on the Island.”

Covering approximately 200 acres, Oriana solar power plant, using 221,718 Jinko polycrystalline modules, 78 Schneider Electric Context XC 630 inverters, Green Power Technologies BPCS Inverters, and 21.8MW of Saft Lithium Ion batteries, is expected to generate more than 125,000 megawatt hours of clean, green electricity per year, offsetting carbon dioxide emissions of more than 95,000 tons a year. Completion of the plant is expected in the fourth quarter of 2016.

“This announcement coincides with the pledges of the Paris climate summit to reduce global warming. We are playing a constructive role in helping Puerto Rico move from fossil fuel energy to renewable sources and are proud to be a part of it,” said Samy Esayag, President of Yarotek.
